The SB-900 and SU-4

I had myself a little experimentation this evening, with the new SB-900.
Took it out along with my Canon Powershot A710is point & shoot down to my local jump spot to see if I could get the built-in flash of the Canon to fire a slaved SB-900 in SU-4 mode.

Turns out you can.

The only thing that bugged me was that there doesn't seem to be a distance scale on the LCD when it's in SU-4 mode. You have to set it up in regular manual mode and then transfer the settings across yourself. Triggering wasn't super reliable, but it was OK - you just need to make sure that the light sensor on the flash is in line of sight of the camera's flash.

I'm all up for this as it means that I can still take some reasonable looking shots without carrying around 10kg of camera gear when I can squeeze a flash and a compact into my Camelbak.
